Corrosion Protection with Upcycled Coffee Waste
Since March 2022, South Korean regulations have been eased regarding the use of after-use coffee grounds, allowing them to be dispersed and recycled locally without acquiring a prior disposal permit from the governing body. This has turned coffee waste into one of the country's major circular resources.
With a simplified distribution reporting process and regulations in place, it is now easier for local cafes and restaurants to dispose of used coffee grounds to their business partners and customers, leading to various recycling and upcycling ideas for coffee waste.
GreenVCI R&D has developed a new idea to transform coffee grounds into natural coffee-based corrosion inhibitors in the form of sachets or packs. Their patent-pending "Coffee VCI" is a unique, first-of-its-kind product in the industry that works the same way as their VCI Powder Sachet/Pack or VCI Desiccant Sachet/Pack products, protecting enclosed packaging spaces from corrosion.
Coffee VCI not only recycles coffee grounds that would otherwise end up in landfills, but also provides temporary corrosion protection.
